Holiday homes across the Vale of Glamorgan

The coast and countryside wrapped around Cardiff. Our homes in the Vale are within easy reach of the Heritage Coast, countryside and the Welsh Capital.

About the area

The Vale of Glamorgan, in short

The Vale of Glamorgan is the vast and open coast and farmland running west from Cardiff to Bridgend. Barry and Penarth sit at its eastern edge. Behind and beyond them are market towns, a heritage coastline of layered limestone cliffs, and a great deal of quiet and scenic views.

Worth your time

What to do while you are here

The Glamorgan Heritage Coast

Fourteen miles of protected coastline between Aberthaw and Porthcawl. The cliffs are banded limestone and shale, close to horizontal.

Dunraven Bay and Nash Point

A vast beach and cliffs at Southerndown, two lighthouses at Nash Point, and the fossil beds at Llantwit Major. The Wales Coast Path runs the whole length.

Cowbridge

The Vale’s market town and its most obvious day out: one long high street of independent shops, a bookshop worth an hour, several good places to eat, and the Physic Garden behind the walls.

Local Tips

Eat and drink

Cowbridge high street for the independents and the bookshop. Llantwit Major for the medieval core and a beach at the bottom of a mile-long lane. Good pubs the whole length of the Heritage Coast.

Getting about

The Vale of Glamorgan line runs Cardiff to Penarth, Barry, Rhoose and Llantwit Major. Beyond the rail corridor a car is genuinely useful, as the coast, Cowbridge and the smaller villages are not well served by bus. Parking almost everywhere outside Penarth’s seafront is free.

Cardiff Airport

At Rhoose, in the middle of the Vale. Ten minutes from Barry and twenty-five from Penarth. Self check-in means an early departure or a delayed landing is never a problem.

The walk to do

Park at Dunraven Bay in Southerndown and follow the cliff top east towards Nash Point. Wide, empty, and at its best between October and March when you will have most of it to yourself.

Weddings and gatherings

The Vale has a concentration of venues and guests usually need somewhere within a short drive. Send us the dates and the headcount and we will put options together across our homes.
